Request a Book
Option 1: Mailed to your home address - books from ASU, UNC-A and Western Carolina books - via ABC Express
Option 2: Books we don't have - mailed to your home address! -
via Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
Option 1: Use the ABC Express service to have a book(s) mailed to your home address.
Follow these instructions:
Search the WNCLN Library catalog.

View the screen containing the book's location (ASU, UNC-A or Western), the call number, and circulation status.

Click the "Request Item " link.

Enter your name and Banner ID number.

In the "Choose a Pickup Location" box, select " ASU Distance Learning." Click "Submit above information."

Click radio button beside the wanted copy. Click "Request selected item."
All WNCLN books will be mailed to your home address as listed on your student record.
Note: Do not request journal volumes from Western or Asheville via ABC Express. All articles are requested through ILLiad.

ABC Express FAQ's:

"On Hold": If you check your library account soon after submitting a request for an item, the item's Status will be "Hold." The item's Status will change to a due date when the item is pulled from the shelf and checked out to you. This may take 24-48 hours depending on when you submit your request. Hold limits: 10 for undergrads and 10 for grads.

Books available from the ASU collection will be mailed to your home - normally within one week.

Books available from Western Carolina University or UNC-Asheville will be sent to ASU and then mailed to your home - in approximately one week. Note: You may call 828-262-2781 to check on your request if they haven't arrived within 10 days.
- Loan Period: Main stack books is 30 days (undergraduates) and 90 days (graduates). Two renewals are allowed -- provided there are no holds on an item. Renewals may be requested by phone (828) 262-2818 or via My Account
- Recalls: Checked out items are subject to recall after 21 days, and incur steep fines if not returned when due. Note: Items needed for course reserves are subject to immediate recall.
- Please Note: You may need to renew your books in order to factor in return mail time.
Option 2: Use Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad) to request books not available from ASU, UNC-A or Western Carolina
A book you want isn't available from ASU, UNC-A or Western (WNCLN)? We will try and borrow it for you from another library, mail it to your home address and provide you with a postage paid return label.
Use Interlibrary Loan's ILLiad system to request these books.

Are you a first time ILLiad user? Register.

Already registered? Go to the ILLiad Logon screen.

After logging in, you will see ILLiad's Main Menu.
- The second option under New Request is Book. Click on it.
- Complete the form. Click the Submit Request button when you are finished.
Note: Use the ILLiad Request a Book option for ERIC documents too, e.g. ED 123 456.
ILLiad FAQ's:
- Active request limits: 10 for undergrads and 20 for grads.
- Delivery time from the distant library to ASU's Belk Library varies from 1 to 3 weeks.
- Renewals for items from other libraries are lending library dependent. Contact Interlibrary Loan at (828) 262-2826.
- Overdue items are subject to fines.
