The Appalachian State University Global Film Series presents Tambien la Lluviaa (Even the Rain) on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in I.G. Greer Auditorium. Admission is free.
The award-winning film is directed by Iciar Bollain and stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Luis Tosar.
Set in contemporary Cochabamba, Bolivia, the film deals with matters of globalization, indigenous rights, and environmental/sustainable development issues.
Benito Del Pliego, an associate professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, will introduce the film. A panel discussion featuring study abroad students that traveled to Cochabamba will share what they learned about the Bolivian people and issues highlighted in the film.

The library has added new touchscreen information kiosks on each floor of the building. These monitors will give you instant, easy access to some of our most popular web tools:
Our technology services staff is currently working on getting small printers attached to each monitor, so that students may print out confirmation slips when booking group study rooms.
We're working on additional apps to add to the kiosks. Can you think of anything else you'd like to be able to do on these kiosks? Let us know in the comments.

Belk Library is hosting training sessions for Web of Science and EndNote Web.

Thomson Reuters, producer of both products, is sending one of their trainer/teachers for one workshop for each product. Seating in each session is limited to the first 40 who email requesting a seat. Each class is 1 hour.

For Spring 2012, the library and SGA worked to make the following changes to library late night hours:
1. The Atrium area will close at 2 a.m. There will be no 24 hours access to the Atrium and Wired Scholar.
2. For 2 weeks at Final exams, the library will be open 24/5 from Sunday night through Thursday nights.

Searching for University Archives materials has just gotten easier. University Archives finding aids are now online and searchable through the new search box on the main Special Collections page. Finding aids, or guides to archival collections, are available for all University Archives material. If you're looking for information about the history of ASU, this is the place to start.

The Belk Library Student Advisory Group (in cooperation with Library Administration) sponsored a "Food for Fines" drive. The drive lasted from December 12 – 22. During that time, the library accepted 1 canned food item for every $1.00 owed in fines up to a $15.00 maximum. Several patrons that did not owe fines also contributed to this drive. During the drive, 533 items were collected and donated to the Watauga Hunger Coalition. A special thanks to all who contributed. We hope to do another “Food for Fines” drive again this year.
All public computers in campus labs and in the library are now set up to print duplex by default. This setting is only the default on the black and white printers. The color printer is still set to single-sided printing.

We are going greener...
I want to remind everyone that beginning this semester TSS has changed all Pharos printing stations on campus to default to duplex printing where possible. Students are not charged any extra charges for printing on both sides of the paper, and the cost per page remains the same.
Students may print single-sided if needed, but must change the setting within the print dialog box before the print job is sent. TSS will be unable to refund any funds for miss-prints. We are hopeful that this change will reduce our campus paper usage significantly. I am also happy to tell you that we have upgraded the Pharos software over the holidays and this should help solve the Pharos problems we have experienced over the past semester.
Additionally, we are testing power save settings across many of the public workstations across campus. We are changing some of our maintenance cycle schedules. We are also changing our practice of turning computers on first thing in the morning, and instead having the first user of the day turn the machine on when it is needed. This project has potential to save energy and save the university money.
