How many items can I check out?
All students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and retirees are able to check out a total of 99 items. All other patrons are limited to 20 items total. Also please note that bound periodicals are limited to 5 items for all patrons.

+IMC State Adopted Textbooks are non-circulating reference material.
Most items can be renewed twice unless another patron has requested the item or your account has expired. Renewals are for the same length as the original loan period for books, and 7 days for multimedia; however items may be recalled during this period (All items are subject to recall).
Log on to Your Library Account (link is external)  to renew items.
Materials cannot be renewed if:
- you have already had 2 renewals.
- the items are overdue. (Self-renewals are permitted on or before the due date. If the due date has passed, call the Library Services Desk at 828-262-2818 to request a renewal.)
- another patron has placed a "Hold" on the item(s).
- your record is blocked due to outstanding obligations.
Reserve items can be checked out from the Library Services Desk by ASU faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students. The loan periods vary from 2 hours, 24 hours, or 3 days dependent on faculty request.
What does "Recall" mean?
You may receive an email message saying your book has been "recalled." That means someone else has requested it. Your books are eligible to be recalled after 30 days. All multimedia items may be recalled after 7 days, and all recalls incur steep fines (additional $0.50/day) if not returned when due.
A recall may shorten your due date so please review the notice to see your new date, or log in to your account on our website. Please note: items needed for course reserves are subject to immediate recall.
Fines and Fees
Library fines on most individual books will be a maximum of $15. Items not returned after 30 days will automatically be billed at a rate of $60 each to your account. If returned, the $60 will be waived, and you will be assesed an overdue fine. Fines for technology checkouts  will accrue at much higher rates.
Interlibrary loan items accrue fines of $0.50/day up to $25, and the replacement fees vary by lending institution. Please note: ILL items may also be subject to recall.
