Finding Articles

Education Full Text
Provides citations with abstracts to nearly 500 international journals--many with accompanying full text articles-- on a wide range of contemporary education issues.

ERIC
Provides indexing to journal articles, research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, books, and ERIC documents. Many with full-text.

PsycINFO
Provides article citations, with abstracts, to journal articles, dissertations, books, book chapters, and reports covering the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines. Many with full-text.

Sociological Abstracts
Provides article citations, with abstracts, from more than 1,900 journals covering all facets of sociology and related disciplines.

Academic Search Premier
Provides abstracts and indexing for over 3,200 scholarly journals covering the social sciences, humanities, education, business, general academics, general science, and multicultural subjects. Many with full text.

Finding Books

The following strategies are designed to help you find information using the WNCLN Online Catalog.

Try a keyword search first. Your strategy will either be to use a specific word or phrase that represents your broad topic. Example:

Try a subject search using Library of Congress Subject Headings, either from highly relevant books that your keyword search turned up, or from fairly broad headings that you find by browsing the Catalog by Subject. Examples:

Another important strategy for searching for books (using either keyword or subject searching) is to search more broadly than your exact topic. Books on the broader subject might have chapters or sections on your topic.

Electronic Reserves

To locate reserve readings,

You can search for the reserve material by the course number or the instructor's name.

You will need to have a PDF reader on your local computer in order to read and/or print the material. The Reserves web page provides a link to download Adobe Acrobat (a common PDF reader). Remember that it can take a minute or so to print each page.

EndNote is a software program that facilitates the maintenance and storage of bibliographic citations, web resources and images; EndNote also makes it easy to share your citations with colleagues and students. Requires a separate software download and installation.
