Freshman Seminar Faculty Library Component

Use of the Library is part of the common course requirements for Freshman Seminar. There are three elements to the Library component.

  1. All students will complete the Library Research Tutorial before coming to a session in the Electronic Library Classroom. There is a link to the tutorial from the Freshman Seminar Students page or from the Library's Research page. It takes approximately one hour to complete the tutorial and take the quiz at the end of the tutorial. Students should print out the certificate (it shows their score), and give the certificate to their classroom instructor before the library visit. Students must score a minimum of 70% in order for the certificate to print. Faculty should determine ahead of time how they would like to incorporate this score into the grade for the course. If you are interested in using the WebCT version of the quiz, please contact Jeff Church.

  2. At least one library related assignment will be integrated into each Freshman Seminar course. The library has provided four assignments that can be modified or used with Freshman Seminar classes. These assignments can be found on the Freshman Seminar Library Assignments page. Instructors are encouraged to develop their own assignments, or to work with librarians to develop other appropriate library assignments.

  3. Every class must participate in a library visit that includes a session with a librarian in the Electronic Library Classroom. Librarians will tailor these sessions to the requests of the course instructors. To schedule a session, use the Library Instruction Request Form.
