Circulation Policies

Damaged or Mutilated items:

Items returned damaged or mutilated will be assessed a charge, with the amount assessed varying with the situation.

Holds and Recalls

If a book is checked out, you may ask at the Circulation Desk for a hold to be placed on the item. Checked out items are subject to recall after 21 days, and incur steeper fines if not returned when due. NOTE: Items needed for course reserves are subject to immediate recall.

Notices

Courtesy hold availability, hold cancellation, overdue notices and bills are sent to a patron's campus e-mail address. If you use an e-mail address other than an assigned campus e-mail address you are responsible for forwarding to your preferred address. Paper notices are sent only to those non-campus affiliated patron categories who do not provide e-mail addresses. NOTE : Failure to receive a notice or failure to read a notice does not relieve the patron of responsibility for overdue fines . You may check on the status of your library account at any time on the Web.

Privileges

The University ID, called the AppCard, is required for all faculty, staff and student circulation transactions. There are NO exceptions. The Library issued borrower card is required for all circulation transactions by community borrower patrons. ID cards from other universities are accepted only from those institutions with which the Library has cooperative agreements , and only under the terms of those agreements.

Spouses and partners may use the Spouse ID card , issued by the University ID Center, for circulation transactions. The Library does not accept dependent ID cards for circulation transactions. Dependents are not eligible for borrowing privileges.

The person to whom the card is issued is responsible for its use, including any misuse. If your card is lost or stolen, you will be held responsible until it is reported to a full-time staff member.

Replacement Charges

University Accounts Receivable will be billed replacement costs for long overdue items. The replacement cost charge is $60.00 for all materials. Under certain circumstances, the library may accept a replacement copy of a lost or damaged book, journal, film, or video in lieu of the replacement cost of the material. For an item to be considered as a replacement for one lost or damaged, it must be an exact copy or an appropriate substitute (as determined by library staff) of the same author/title. Mass market paperbacks are not acceptable as replacement copies. If the library accepts a replacement copy in lieu of the replacement cost, the library will still assess a $20.00 processing fee.

Searches

If an item has a "Not checked out" status and you cannot locate it on the shelf, you may ask for a search to be done. The Circulation Desk will assist you with this. When, and if, the item is located, you will be notified and the item will be held at the Circulation Desk for 7 days for you to pick up.

Self Check-Out

For your convenience, a self-checkout unit is available on the First Floor in front of the Circulation Desk. If you need assistance with your first try, please ask at any service desk.
