About this service
The Virtual Reality Studio is a new space on the lower level of the Belk Library and Information Commons that houses five VR workstations available for class and student use. A collaboration between the University Libraries and the Academic Technologies department of ITS, the new VR Studio has five HTC Vive headsets, each with access to various VR experiences. This space can be used for classroom exploration, projects, and individual use.
Faculty who are interested in using the VR Studio for classes can review the options below and then fill out our Technology Instruction Form.
Virtual Reality Studio Instruction
Faculty have the option of incorporating VR into their courses using the VR Studio. The Libraries and Academic Technologies can work with faculty to create projects, curate experiences, and teach the necessary skills to further the learning goals of their students. Options include:
- Exploratory Experiences - classes can experience prepared VR apps that work within the curriculum. Up to 5 separate options can be used, and specific apps can be provided upon request.
- Project Creation - Use the VR apps to create products in a virtual environment. Apps like Tiltbrush and Blocks allow for the creation of art and 3D objects. Specific apps can be requested depending on usage.
- Team Development - Certain VR experiences can be used to increase teamwork and promote group work. An example is Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. Experiences can be acquired for certain disciplines upon request.
For information on incorporating any of these options into the curriculum, fill out our Technology Instruction Request form with as much information as you have about your envisioned project. Please fill out this form at least two weeks before you would like for your class to use the VR Studio.
