L’Année philologique was founded in Paris in 1926 and its goal is to collect annually scholarly works relating to every aspect of Greek and Roman civilization.

L'Année philologique on the Internet is the digital version of L'Année philologique, a database published by the Société Internationale de Bibliographie Classique, in collaboration with the Society for Classical Studies (founded as the American Philological Association).

Subjects covered include authors and texts; literature; linguistics; political, economic, and social history; attitudes and daily life; religion ; cultural and artistic life; law; philosophy  science and technology; and the history of classical studies.
