Bill Rhinehart of Melville, Long Island and Appalachian alumni died on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. He was 95. Bill was the first chair of the Library Advisory Board and an emeritus member for 13 years. Bill was a cheerleader when he was at Appalachian, and he never stopped cheering for the University and the Library. He loved Mountaineer football and was always thrilled to see a game in person or on television. His greatest legacies for the Library are his support for a new library building in the early 2000's and the impressive Bill and Maureen Rhinehart Special Collection on British History.
The Rhineharts made a generous donation to the University Libraries, contributing both a beautiful collection of British China and a dedicated collections room on the 4th floor of Belk Library and Information Commons. This donation must have been inspired by their shared love of British history and is now a lasting legacy for others to enjoy. Bill had a life full of enthusiasm, big ideas, devotion to his faith, his beautiful wife Maureen, and an amazing volunteer spirit. Our condolences go to his widow, Maureen Rhinehart, his beloved family, and his many, many friends.
