Dr. Margaret Gregor retires June 30, 2025

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Margaret Gregor who is retiring, effective June 30, 2025!

Margaret joined the University Libraries in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and the Instructional Materials Center Coordinator. She was promoted to Professor in 2019 and holds The Martha and Nancy Lee Bivens Distinguished Professorship for Children and Reading. During her time at Appalachian State, Margaret collaborated with faculty in the Reich College of Education to create and fund the Appalachian Children’s Literature Symposium. This biennial event, which began in 2010, has brought children’s and young adult authors and illustrators to the High Country to work with several thousand students, faculty, teachers, and librarians. This year's events will take place the week of April 7th.

Throughout her tenure at Appalachian Margaret served as a liaison to various departments in the College of Education, collaborating with faculty on numerous articles and projects. In 2017, she was selected as an exchange librarian for the Fudan-Appalachian librarian exchange program and spent the summer of 2019 conducting research in China. In service to the library profession, she served as President of the North Carolina Curriculum Materials Association and contributed to several Association of College and Research Libraries  committees, to include chairing the Educational & Behavioral Sciences Section (EBSS) Curriculum Materials Committee and serving as secretary for the Instruction for Educators Committee.

Within the library, Margaret mentored many librarians, served on numerous committees, and provided exceptional service to patrons.

Margaret, we wish you all the best in your retirement and thank you for your ongoing commitment to the Appalachian State University Libraries.
