Update: 7/22/2024
On June18, the University Libraries had the incredible honor of hosting Jaki Shelton Green for our Juneteenth celebration. Jaki Shelton Green, the first African American and third woman to serve as North Carolina Poet Laureate, captivated our audience with her profound poetry. The event was held in the Solarium of the Plemmons Student Union. The event was well attended and the audience listened to her works of prose and poetry. Desserts and beverages were generously provided by Inspired D'Lites, a well known Black-owned business here in Hickory, North Carolina.
The impactful words of Jaki Shelton Green left a lasting impression on everyone present. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth and share this remarkable experience with our community.
