Following a national search, we are very pleased to announce that Jewel Davis is now the Instructional Materials Center Librarian and the Martha and Nancy Lee Bivens Distinguished Professor. Jewel will also continue her leadership as the Director of the IMC.
Jewel has been an Education Librarian at App State since 2013. Her work focuses on the intersection of librarianship, teacher education, and youth literature. Whether through curating the IMC collection, embedding instruction into the education curriculum, or promoting inclusive literacy practices, her impact is felt across campus and beyond.
In 2024 Jewel was promoted to Professor and began serving as the Interim Director of the IMC in 2025. Her extensive scholarship and service, including her current role as Chair of the Randolph Caldecott Award Selection Committee, reflect her deep commitment to representation and belonging in literacy.
