Appalachian State University librarians hosted a one-day workshop on Monday, June 24, 2024. The workshop was tailored to nonprofit organizations in our region. The goal of the workshop was simple: They wanted to help Western North Carolina nonprofits gain access to valuable library resources, including premium databases and journals that are typically restricted to faculty, staff, and student use.
Why is this important? These resources contain a treasure trove of data and information that may greatly support the grant writing efforts of many regional nonprofits. The workshop will offer:
In the hands-On Training, the participants were instructed on how to navigate the sometimes complex library systems and show how to access these critical resources. Participants were also taught how to access databases and journals that house research, data, and reports that can enhance their grant proposals and fundraising strategies.
Our team of experienced librarians were there to answer questions and provide one-on-one assistance. They also worked with participants to find the most relevant data for their organization's unique needs.
“The workshop is intended to equip our regional nonprofits with the practical skills and knowledge to utilize these resources effectively. By attending, participants may be better prepared to use these tools to their advantage, making their grant writing more informed and impactful.” said John Wiswell, Library Faculty coordinator.
“So glad to be a participant in this informative workshop,” said Ethan Flynn, Grant Director for the Hospitality House for NWNC. “It’s wonderful to learn about all the resources we have available in our grant writing efforts, minutes away from our own offices. I am grateful to the University Libraries. I will be back.”
