Student Library Advisory Board Spring 2026

The Student Library Advisory Board had another successful semester.  Working closely with Dean Sue Polanka, Librarian Breanne Crumpton, and Board Advisor and Executive Assistant to the Dean, Kelly Burkett, the group tackled and completed many successful projects.

The group worked on Phase 2 of the Belk Library study room project. Throughout the process, students played an active role in shaping the look and feel of the renovated spaces. A major focus of their work was selecting images to be featured in the remodeled study rooms. Students expressed a strong desire for imagery that reflects the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, noting that these visuals create a calming atmosphere and help them feel connected to the region while studying.

In addition to contributing to the physical redesign of library spaces, the Student Library Advisory Board also focused on reevaluating University Libraries’ support for students during finals. While the Libraries have offered “Finals Fest” programming for several years, board members provided valuable feedback based on their own experiences. Students shared which services and resources they found most helpful during previous exam periods and offered insights into what they feel is most needed during high-stress times. Their feedback will help guide future Finals Fest planning and ensure that library services continue to align with student needs and expectations.

A few other projects included:

  • The Freddie the Bear Library Mascot launch

  • The Love Your Library Campaign

  • Library Merch/Swag evaluation and update

  • Subcommittee for work with the Architect for future Library renovations

  • Participated in the Library Creative Collaborations Expo

“There’s something special about this group of students.  We eat well, play well and work hard.  They are our best recruiters for new members as well.  We will miss our graduating class this year as they were a part of our beginning members of this group.” said Kelly Burkett.

Our graduating seniors are Lily Tunstall, Christian Chavez Gonzalez, Derik Kinkopf, Peyton Paisley, Lily Seymour, Tyler Hunter, Graham Hysom, Andie Combs.
