University Libraries Boards/Council/Committee Updates

Our Library Advisory Board met on Friday, April 19th in Belk Library.  The day began with refreshments at 8:30am with the meeting starting at 9am.  Dean Polanka shared her budget presentation given mid April and the group discussed budget priorities.  After a short break, the council broke up into small groups and were led in a facilitated discussion about libraries of the future by Special Assistant to the Dean, Georgie Donovan.

The Library Services Committee met on April 9, 2024 at 4:00 pm in Belk Library.  Amy Love, Library Webmaster shared with the group some future updates to the library website.  Dean Polanka shared her upcoming budget presentation for remarks.  Sue Polanka shared the student responses to the Libraries of the Future discussion.

The Stock Car Racing Collection Advisory Board met on May 7th and said farewell to Suzanne Wise.  Suzanne established this Board back in 2000 and together they have curated our outstanding collection, the largest stock car collection in the country. Suzanne will be transitioning to an adjunct in Collection Management Services on July 1, 2024 to help with deselection.  The board thanked Suzanne for her service to the board with a gift.

Our Student Library Advisory Board met and traveled to the Hickory Campus to visit the Hickory Library and Information Commons.  The students in this group helped design the Library in Hickory but had not returned to see the space completed.  The group also recognized graduating student members of the group.

To align with University Standards, our board will undergo a name change in the near future.  Without a doubt, a different name won't change the hard work and dedication of each group.  We thank you.
