Veronica Wells named new Associate Dean for Learning and Research

Veronica Alzalde Wells recently joined the University Libraries as the new Associate Dean for Learning & Research. She oversees the Information Literacy, Instructional Media Center, and Music Library teams and coordinates the Human Resources work of the Libraries. Previously, Veronica was the Outreach & Public Services Lecturer Librarian with Appalachian State’s Special Collections Research Center where she taught classes, assisted researchers, and organized exhibits and events.

“I’m very excited for this new opportunity to contribute to the learning and research needs of the campus community and to support the excellent work of the Information Literacy, Music Library, and Instructional Media Center teams,” said Wells.

Veronica brings extensive experience in library administration from her time as the Assistant Dean of User Services & Programs at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. There, she provided strategic leadership for student-centered library services, including outreach, instructional services, instructional assessment, program and policy development. She was also the liaison to the Conservatory of Music.

Veronica is an active member of the Music Library Association and has a strong record of scholarship in music librarianship, information literacy, and music industry studies. In 2018, she co-authored The Historical Dictionary of the American Music Industry.

Outside of her professional work, Veronica teaches yoga and enjoys cooking vegetarian meals with her partner, David Wells, Assistant Professor of Bassoon at App State’s Hayes School of Music.
