Xiaorong Shao and Margaret Gregor had an article, "The Value of the Fudan-Appalachian Librarian Exchange Program: Perceptions of Participating Librarians", published in the Journal of Library Administration in December 2023.
The authors conducted a study to gather information about the ways international librarian exchanges benefit participating libraries and librarians and described their findings in this article. Between 2008 and 2018 seven librarians from Fudan University in Shanghai, China and five librarians from App State had the opportunity to explore library operations and service provision; learn from colleagues; investigate solutions to common problems; engage in collaborative scholarship; and experience another culture.
Margaret Gregor, one of the exchange librarians, stated "the exchange program had a lasting impact on all participants, helping them to gain a global perspective on the provision of library services to domestic and international students and faculty as well as greater cultural understanding." Drs. Shao and Gregor also presented the findings of this study at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Conference in Rotterdam, Netherlands in August, 2023.
