How to Find a Book

Library Search allows you to search the main search box for books and eBooks or perform an advanced search for books and eBooks.

Searching from the "Search Anything" box
  • Enter your search terms into the search anything box. The search box defaults to searching everything. If you would like to search a specific part of the collection, use the drop down menu to select where you would like to search. For example you can select App State Only to exclude the other UNC System schools.
  • Click search
Use the main search box in the middle of the library homepage
  • The search results will default to searching ebooks, print, and open access. If you have a preferred format, you can select or exclude a specific format on the left hand side of the page, under availability.
Filtering options appear under the "Refine results" heading on the search results page
Options to narrow your search results appear on the left. (Phone users: Look for the ยป icon on the left side of the screen to see these options.)
  • If the book is in print format, you’ll see the location and call number listed.
  • If the book is available online, click on the Available Online link. You’ll see options for how to access the online book.
Searching from Advanced Search

You might want to search for a book from the Advanced Search page. This is a good option if you want to search for a specific book by author or title.

  • From library.appstate.edu, click on the Advanced Search link
  • Change Material Type to Books & E-Books
  • If you know specific information about the book you’re looking for, such as Title or Author, you can change the search filters, and search.
How to narrow your book/eBook search
  • For both search types, you can search within a specific part of the collection, including:
    • App State Online
    • PreK-12 Materials
    • Special Collections & Archives
    • Course Reserves
  • You can also narrow your results by:
    • Material Type
    • Language
    • Publication Date
"We did not find your article or book" is followed by four linked options for getting the item
If you can't get the full text using the Find@ASU button, you can use Option 3 to request an interlibrary loan (borrowing the article from another library).
