Children's Literature Symposium Wrap up

Recently, the University Libraries and the School of Education jointly hosted the 7th biennial App State Children's Literature Symposium. This tradition was established to bring popular, award-winning authors and illustrators to the school children, teachers, librarians, and college students of western North Carolina.

Our guest this year was Katherine Roy, who creates beautiful and informative nonfiction picture books about science topics such as animals and nature. She visited several schools in Wilkes and Catawba counties, led an interactive art program for families on the Boone campus, and presented a professional development lecture at the Hickory campus.

We enjoyed her engaging style and ideas for bringing her books into the classroom, and learned more about seaweed than we thought possible! Please join us for another exciting symposium in 2027.
