Library Open House

On September 10, University Libraries hosted an Open House designed to showcase our role in supporting the success of App State students and faculty in a fun and engaging way.  This carnival-themed event ran from 2pm to 6pm during which time participants were invited to visit 11 stations throughout the first floor and lower level of Belk Library and Information Commons to learn about our unique services and resources.

At each station, we shared information both about how we can support the academic and creative endeavours as well as the hidden work we provide from promoting our newly revamp Recording Studio to showing off our work in digitizing old formats. Participants were invited to collect stamps from each station they visited in order to be entered into a raffle for prizes including two giant squishmallows! There was also a dedicated space for faculty to visit and chat with us about their own research and teaching needs.

Overall, the event welcomed over 200 students who took home friendship bracelets, informational tarot cards, and lots of free food! Participants also played games and won other fun prizes. Students who completed the survey said they were overall comfortable visiting Belk Library and we received several positive comments ranging from praise for the mini golf to appreciation for how friendly our staff is.

“It was a lot of fun. I enjoyed taking a break from a busy day and learning more about everything the library offers. My favorite part was watching Yosef run around to the different booths and interacting with everyone or just getting to know the people around the library.” - Andie Combs.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in some way to the success of this event. Ultimately, it is not just our space and resources that bring the University Libraries to life; it's the dedication, creativity, and passion of our employees who help shape success across campus one interaction at a time. photo collage of students enjoying the Library Open House
