Library Advisory Council member, Kay Borkowski was recognized by the Watauga County Board of Commissioners as one of the six Watauga County recipients of the 2025 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards.
The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award honors the true spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals and groups that make a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. An individual or group from the public, nonprofit, and private sectors may be nominated for this recognition award by a community member to their county-designated coordinator.
Kay was nominated for more than three decades of service to the Hospitality House of Northwest North Carolina. Since moving to Boone in 1993, she has served 34 years on its board of directors and held numerous leadership roles. Hall said Borkowski has long focused on supporting underserved populations, including veterans, families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Congratulations on an honor well earned, Kay!
