The new Sensory Lounge on the 3rd floor is now open to students, faculty, and staff. The purpose of sensory spaces is to provide comfortable environments that promote sensory regulation and relieve stress and anxiety, and produce a sense of calm and well-being.
The Sensory Lounge has:
- comfortable floor seating and active seating
- white noise machines and earplugs
- alternative/low lighting
- fidgets, weighted lap pads, puzzles, and other small items for regulation & stress relief
We ask that all lounge users:
- Limit their time to 45 minutes.
- Silence their devices
- Refrain from socializing, eating, or sleeping in the lounge
- Return items/furniture where they found them.
See the Sensory Spaces policy or contact sensoryspaces@appstate.edu with any questions.
The Sensory Lounge, Sensory Room, and Alternative Study Room were made possible through generous financial support from both the library and the Student Government Association (SGA). The project was further enriched by guidance from the SGA, the Neurodivergent Students & Allies Group, and the Library Student Advisory Board, whose insights helped ensure the space meets the diverse needs of our student community.
