The new Sensory Room on the 1st floor is now open to students, faculty, and staff. The purpose of sensory spaces is to provide comfortable environments that promote sensory regulation, relieve stress and anxiety, and produce a sense of calm and well-being.
The Sensory Room is a first-come, first-served private room with:
- floor rockers and floor cushions
- white noise machines and noise-cancelling headphones
- alternative/low lighting
- fidgets, weighted lap pads, and other small items for regulation & stress relief
We ask that all Sensory Room users:
- Limit their time to 45 minutes
- Lock the door while using the room and unlock it when they leave
- Return all items where they found them.
See the Sensory Spaces policy or contact sensoryspaces@appstate.edu with any questions.
The Sensory Room, Sensory Lounge, and Alternative Study Room (354A) were made possible through generous financial support from both the library and the Student Government Association (SGA). The project was further enriched by guidance from the SGA, the Neurodivergent Students & Allies Group, and the Library Student Advisory Board, whose insights helped ensure the space meets the diverse needs of our student community.
