About this service
How to Borrow Materials
Retirees, Spouses & Partners will need to visit the AppCard Office to get a new AppCard made. Please bring this new AppCard to the Library Service Desk and the staff will make sure your account is set up and ready to use. Also, in order to use our My Account features such as online renewals and requests, you will need to have a valid email address.
Please note that items from the Technology Checkout Desk are not able to be checked out by Retirees, Spouses & Partners. See the Borrow, Renew, Request page for loan periods and limits. Retirees will have most of the same checkout privileges they had before retiring.
Retirees, Spouses & Partners are responsible for each item borrowed on their card until the material is returned to the Library. Lost or damaged materials must be paid for.
Building Access
Retirees, Spouses & Partners are able to access the Belk Library & Information Commons during the library's public hours.
Access to library online resources
Remote (off-campus) access to Appalachian State’s licensed online library resources is not available per strict and specific vendor license agreements. Retired faculty who are designated as emeritus or return in a different position to the University do qualify for remote access as long as they stay emeritus or employed by the University.
Retired faculty and staff may visit the library in-person to conduct research using the online library resources. Licensed online library resources are available to all walk-in users of the library. To do so, visit the Library Service Desk to ask about a computer login, and then you may access the licensed resources from a library computer.
For remote access to the state sponsored NCLIVE online databases, please contact your nearest public library to get a library card and login information. NCLIVE provides a rich selection of online databases to North Carolina residents.
