Services for Community Members

Appalachian State University Libraries are open to community members and North Carolina public school teachers.

Community Services

Borrowing

Local community members and alumni can request a community borrower card to borrow library materials. North Carolina public school teachers can get a teacher borrower card.

Computers & Wifi

Ask for a guest pass at the desk to use the computers for community users on the main floor of Belk Library. If you bring your own laptop you can use the campus visitor wireless network (asu-visitor).

Printing & Copying

The Print Zone on the main floor of Belk Library is open to community users. Please visit during the Print Zone's staffed hours if you want to pay for your prints with a credit/debit card.

Research

You can use print materials in the library or check them out with a community borrower card. You can also use the library's research databases from within the library building, but not from home. The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) is open to the community and is a great resource for local history research. Please note that some SCRC services and collections are only available by appointment.

Events

Many library events are open to community members. Check the calendar for details on specific events.

Teacher Resources

North Carolina public school teachers may request a teacher borrower card to borrow library materials, including the many pre-K through 12 materials available on the lower level of Belk Library in the Instruction Materials Center (IMC).

Teachers can also use the Makerspace, which contains Ellison die cuts, laminators, comb binders, 3d printers, craft materials, and more. Stop by the service desk on the lower level in the IMC to get started, and be sure to bring your official school ID from a North Carolina public school district.

Teachers can get a free one-day parking pass to use the library (except on football game days and during other special events). See parking information for teachers using the library.

Hours & Parking

Check the hours calendar before you come.

Hours vary during university breaks, and some departments like Special Collections have limited hours. After midnight, Belk Library is open only to App State students, staff, and faculty.

Review your parking options.

Campus visitor parking is restricted on weekdays until 7pm and on football game days. Contact University Parking & Transportation if you have questions.
