Library Instruction Programs

Appalachian State University Libraries provides research assistance to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral classes. Librarians are able to work with you to create an instruction session suited to the needs of your students and your teaching.

First Year Experience

Visits to your class(es) can be scheduled to introduce the Online Library Component and research labs can be scheduled upon completion of it. Check out our First Year Seminar faculty guide or contact the First Year Experience Librarian for more information.

Belk Library supports the First Year Writing program with interactive librarian-led research instruction sessions and with a course research guide that can be integrated directly into AsULearn. Contact the First Year Experience Librarian for more information.

Information Literacy Instruction

Library instruction sessions are tailored to the research assignments you give your students. We offer in-person, online synchronous, and online asynchronous instruction modalities, and faculty can request instruction for their classes using the Instruction Request Form. Find your librarian or contact Kelly Rhodes for general information about the information literacy instruction program.

Special Collections Research Center Instruction

Engage your students with Special Collections, including manuscripts, archives, and rare books, to learn the power of primary sources. For more information, see Instruction Services on the SCRC website.

Instructional Materials Center Instruction

The Instructional Materials Center librarians offer instruction on children's and young adult literature and strategies for research in the field of education. We offer a virtual tour for new education majors, orientations for students, and planning sessions with faculty for class assignments. For more information, find your librarian or contact Margaret Gregor.

For Students

Students seeking individual research assistance from a librarian can schedule a RAP session (Research Advisory Program). RAP sessions provide students the opportunity to meet with a librarian for in-depth reference assistance to identify sources for a research topic.
