Dr. Mary Reichel has been the University Librarian at Appalachian State University since 1992. In 2000, she was named the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor for Library and Information Studies in addition to holding the title of University Librarian. Her Ph.D. in Higher Education was awarded by Georgia State University. She holds the M.A. in Librarianship from the University of Denver, a M.Sc.Econ from the University of Wales, and a B.A. from Grinnell College. Prior to coming to Appalachian State University, she worked at the University of Arizona, Georgia State University, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Dr. Reichel served as the 2001-2002 President of the Association of College and Research Libraries. In 1999 Dr. Reichel was honored with ACRL Instruction Section’s Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian of the Year Award. Mary’s husband is Rao Aluri, founder of Parkway Publishers, and their son, Krishna Aluri, a graduate of the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill, is a student at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk.
