Student Library Advisory Board Fall 2025

The Student Library Advisory Board worked closely with Dean Sue Polanka, Librarian Breanne Crumpton, and Board Advisor and Executive Assistant to the Dean, Kelly Burkett, on Phase 2 of the Belk Library study room project. Throughout the process, students played an active role in shaping the look and feel of the renovated spaces. A major focus of their work was selecting images to be featured in the remodeled study rooms. Students expressed a strong desire for imagery that reflects the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, noting that these visuals create a calming atmosphere and help them feel connected to the region while studying.

In addition to contributing to the physical redesign of library spaces, the Student Library Advisory Board also focused on reevaluating University Libraries’ support for students during finals. While the Libraries have offered “Finals Fest” programming for several years, board members provided valuable feedback based on their own experiences. Students shared which services and resources they found most helpful during previous exam periods and offered insights into what they feel is most needed during high-stress times. Their feedback will help guide future Finals Fest planning and ensure that library services continue to align with student needs and expectations.

"One of my favorite things about my job is the amount of time and interaction I have with the students, said Kelly Burkett, Executive Assistant to Dean Polanka.  "They are why we are here!"
