Library Search is launching July 16, 2025
Library Search is our new system for searching and requesting library materials.
It will replace APPsearch, the library catalog, and the current online system for renewing and requesting items.
Benefits of Library Search
- One streamlined interface for searching and requesting items and managing your library account
- Borrow from other UNC System libraries: Borrow from NC A&T, UNCA, and WCU starting in July, with other universities joining soon
- Coming in 2026: A new library mobile app, easier requesting for articles and books from beyond the UNC system, and new features for course reading lists
Key Info for Faculty
- Limited services July 10-16: Library users won’t be able to renew or request materials online from July 10-16, but can still check out materials in person.
- Update links to library resources: If you link directly to library resources like e-books in your syllabi or AsULearn courses, please check those links after July 16, 2025 and ask us if you need help finding updated links.
- Tutorials and support materials are coming soon. Please contact your liaison if you have any questions or concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions
The goal is to modernize library systems and enhance resource discovery and access statewide by creating a shared library services platform across 12+ UNC System institutions. Long-term benefits include:
- Negotiating Power: By sharing a network with other institutions, the UNC System can negotiate better pricing for resources as a group.
- Resource Sharing: The system will make resource sharing more efficient and cooperative across all participating institutions.
This is a two-year, collaborative project that institutions will join in phases:
- July 2025: Appalachian State University, NC A&T University, UNC Asheville, and Western Carolina University
- Spring 2026: NC Central University, UNC Charlotte, UNC Pembroke, and UNC School of the Arts
- Fall 2026: Fayetteville State University, NC State University, UNC Wilmington, and Winston Salem State University
- Library users will still be able to borrow materials from App State’s libraries throughout this transition, and there is no need to turn items in early.
- To save your personal circulation history, login to your library account and click the “Export My Reading History Button” to see export options. This old circulation information will not be available on the new system.
-
Some library services will be limited during the
transition period:
- Account access: Users will not be able to access their accounts online to renew or request books from July 10-16. Contact the library to renew or request materials.
- Self checkout machines: Self checkout will not be available from July 10-16, but users can still check out items at the desk.
- Borrowing materials from UNCA and WCU and ILL: These services will not be available from July 10-16.
- Ordering new materials: Material orders and new e-resource purchases will be paused during the transition. We will resume ordering in the new system on August 4.
- Access to e-resources: As we work to transition all of our e-resource vendors to the new system, you may encounter some broken links to full-text articles or e-books within Library Search, Research Guides, or AsULearn courses. Contact us if you need assistance accessing an e-resource or finding updated links for your AsULearn courses.
